Welcome to RJ Musique, where I share my journey as a professional educator and trombonist. On this page, you'll find updates on the different events I'll be participating in as a trombonist with various orchestras. Additionally, I'll soon be sharing where I'll be presenting music educational workshops using the Orff approach, so you can be a part of it. I'll also be providing private trombone lessons for students in grades 6 through 12 in the Triangle area of North Carolina.

Bienvenidos a RJ Musique, donde comparto mi trayectoria como educador profesional y trombonista. En esta página, encontrarás actualizaciones sobre los diferentes eventos en los que participaré como trombonista con varias orquestas. Además, pronto estaré compartiendo los lugares donde estaré ofreciendo talleres de educación musical utilizando el enfoque Orff, para que puedas ser parte del mismo. También ofreceré lecciones privadas de trombón para estudiantes de 6º a 12º grado en el área del Triángulo en Carolina del Norte.

About Me.

     Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Rody J Huertas is an educator and professional trombonist with a wide range of skills in jazz, classical, Latin American, and folkloric music styles. With over 19 years of stage experience, he has brought his music to countries including Puerto Rico, the United States, France, Spain, Egypt, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Perú. He holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where his thesis explored the relationship between students' body movements and rhythmic patterns in the 'Reto de la Bomba de Puerto Rico.' In 2023, he reached the third level of Orff Certification and completed World Music Drumming Level 1. Since 2005, Rody has been an active performer, educator, and composer/arranger, making significant contributions to the music scenes in Puerto Rico and North Carolina. Currently, he is a music teacher at Frank Porter Graham Bilingual School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he has worked since 2019. He has conducted music workshops in various locations, including Puerto Rico (2012-2019), Hueytamalco, Puebla, Mexico (2015), Hofstra University in New York (2021), Hidden Valley Music Seminars in Carmel Valley (2022), California (2023), the North Carolina Museum of Art (2023), and the University of New Orleans (2024).

     Nacido y criado en Puerto Rico, Rody J Huertas es un educador y trombonista profesional con una amplia gama de habilidades en los estilos de jazz, música clásica, música latinoamericana y música folklórica. Con más de 19 años de experiencia en el escenario, ha llevado su música a países como Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos, Francia, España, Egipto, Bélgica, Países Bajos, Turquía y Perú. Posee una Maestría en Educación Musical del Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, donde su tesis exploró la relación entre los movimientos corporales de los estudiantes y los patrones rítmicos en el 'Reto de la Bomba de Puerto Rico'. En 2023, alcanzó el tercer nivel de Certificación Orff y completó el Nivel 1 de World Music Drumming. Desde 2005, Rody ha sido un intérprete, educador y compositor/arreglista activo, contribuyendo significativamente a las escenas musicales de Puerto Rico y Carolina del Norte. Actualmente, es maestro de música en la escuela bilingüe Frank Porter Graham en Chapel Hill, Carolina del Norte, donde ha trabajado desde 2019.
